· The first few days and weeks (for a new tattoo) are probably the most important for your new tattoo. Make sure you care for it properly. Below is the healing procedure do’s and don’ts we recommend. We recommend you follow the advice of your tattoo artist! Do NOT take advice from a friend.
· Leave the Recovery Derm on for minimally 48 hours (preferably 3-5 days) after you receive the tattoo. Tattoo’s will ooze, this is a normal part of the healing process. The bandage is there to keep airborne bacteria and any other contaminants in the environment from invading your wound.
1. Make sure your hands have been washed thoroughly before you remove the bandage. We highly recommend taking the bandage off in the shower. Make sure to wash your hair and body first.
2. After removing the bandage, cleanse the tattooed area with antibacterial soap and water. Do not scrub the tattoo with a brush or towel (this should not be done until the tattoo has healed.) The idea behind the washing is to eliminate any dead cells that have been allowed to accumulate on the surface.
3. Avoid towel drying the freshly exposed tattoo, let it air dry. If you must dry it be sure to use a dry sterile towel.
4. Let the tattoo dry completely (approximately 10 minutes).
5. Lightly apply a thin layer of Hustle Butter; we sell Hustle Butter in the shop. DO NOT APPLY anything Petroleum or Vaseline based; these products clog your pores.
6. You do not need to re-bandage.
· Repeat steps above for three-four days, approximately six times a day. The amount of times you re-apply will greatly depend on your skin and only you can be the best judgement of that. If the skin feels tight, it is dry, you will want to follow the steps above and add another time or two throughout the day. The idea behind this part of the process is to not let the tattoo dry out. After a few days you may notice some peeling and possibly a little scabbing. It is at this point in the healing process that your tattoo will begin to itch. RESIST THE URGE TO SATISFY YOUR DESIRE TO SCRATCH, RUB, OR PICK at the tattoo. Remember-the first few days and weeks (for a new tattoo) are probably the most important for your new tattoo. Make sure you care for it properly. Consult a physician or contact us if you experience symptoms such as excessive swelling, redness, fever, yellow, or green discharge. You are strongly encouraged to contact a physician at the first sign of infection.
Some final DO NOTS!!!!!
1. DO NOT go swimming or soak in a hot tub or bath FOR AT LEAST A WEEK.
2. DO NOT use hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol on your tattoo.
3. DO NOT use any petroleum or vaseline based products on your healing tattoo. These will clog the pores.
4. DO NOT itch, pick, or scratch the tattoo.
5. DO NOT participate in activities that will make you sweat. Sweat building up with a fresh tattoo can cause the area to develop pimples, the pimples could create a loss of ink in those spots.
6. Stay out of the sun until your tattoo has healed completely. Apply sunblock to your tattoo after it has healed, whenever it is exposed to the sun, to protect it from damaging ultraviolet rays.
